Giving A Cute Cat as a Gift
Are you considering getting a kitty cat for your son or daughter who has been dropping some serious hints? First reaction is probably “No, you can’t have a cat.” But, take some time and seriously think about it before dismissing the thought. Here are some reasons why a kitty might be a good gift.
Easier than Puppies
Cats are a lot easier to take care of than puppies. You child won’t have to walk a cat or kitten, and the cats can practically potty train themselves to use the litter box. Kittens are generally less hyper and rambunctious than puppies (although they can be a little frisky and playful for sure).
The most basic supplies for a cute cat are a litter box and some food. A puppy would need more time and attention, in addition to daily walks and frequent outside potty breaks. Puppies also go through a lot of chew bones which help prevent them from chewing the furniture - and this can become expensive. While kittenslike to play a lot as well, they don’t require the amount of attention a puppy does. And don’t forget puppies need baths! How difficult will it be to get your child to bathe a puppy? (Actually many might enjoy it).
One more thing that we might not want to think about here, but cats are far less dangerous than a dog. So that is important to consider as well.
Hmm, Cat or Kitten?
Cats may make better a better pet for a child than a kitten would. This of course all depends on the age of the child. Kittens are very small and very delicat, and sometimes a child may become a little rough when playing or caring for the kitten. If a kitten becomes afraid, it can become shy and withdrawn and you want a playful and social kitten in your household. An older cat will provide all the fun of a new pet that a younger child might be looking for.
Where Can We Get One?
One of the first places you should look for a new cat is the animal shelter. The cats and kittens here are in great need of attention, love and caring. You can adopt a cute cat at the shelter that has all of its shots and is possibly already spayed or neutered. This is a great benefit because it won’t be necessary take it to the vet immediately after picking it up.
Another place to look for a cute cat is a reputable pet store. You will need to do your research for this to avoid buying from pet stores that receive their animals from pet mills.
Finally, you can find a reputable breeder. The benefit of buying from a breeder is that she will be able to give you the kitty’s complete history and will usually remain available as you learn to adapt to your new pet.
So, don’t turn the other cheek when asked if a new pet can join the family. Take time to consider it, and choose a cute cat if you can’t resist your child’s puppy dog eyes.
